Abstract
Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common nonepithelial solid neoplasms involving the alimentary tract. We report a case of a 61-year-old man presented with epigastric abdominal pain for one month. Further evaluation revealed slowly decrease in hemoglobin with a sudden drop while hospitalized for alter mental status in a setting of urinary tract infection. Rectal exam showed melena. CT scan of the abdomen shows a large complex cystic mass attached to the abdominal wall. An upper endoscopy was done finding a 3cm tumor in greater curvature that resemble Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs). Patient underwent to exploratory laparotomy with wedge gastrectomy founding a 10cm tumor in the posterior gastric wall compressing the transverse colon.
Histology revealed a clear cell variant of GIST. Gastric GISTs primarily presenting as upper gastrointestinal bleeding. The patient was discharge home and proper arrangement was made with oncologist as outpatient. Follow up pf the patient done accordingly
