Abstract

Purpose: There is a lack of comprehensive histology resources in existing Anki decks, leading students to individually create their own flashcards, which increases preparation time and may compromise accuracy. With faculty guidance, this project aims to develop a set of histology flashcards on the Anki platform to help medical students improve performance on the USMLE Step exams and practical assessments. By supplementing traditional study methods, this resource seeks to make histology learning more efficient and enhance retention through active recall and spaced repetition.

Description: The project focuses on creating Anki flashcards with histological images and concise explanations highlighting key identification features. By leveraging active recall and spaced repetition, the cards aim to enhance understanding and retention. Designed for medical students, this resource addresses challenges in managing and retaining the vast amount of required study material while simplifying preparation. It is anticipated that feedback will demonstrate improved comprehension and exam readiness.

Partners: Medical educators contributed to the selection of content and images, while student organizations assisted with testing and providing feedback.

Looking Ahead: This project provides long-term benefits for medical education by improving access to effective study tools and enhancing learning outcomes. Future plans include expanding the deck to cover advanced histology topics and incorporating it into teaching programs.
