A look back at the life of Ruben Edelstein. In 2010, he was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus Award. He founded Brownsville's United Way in 1955 and was the city's mayor from 1975 to 1979. President of Edelstein's Better Furniture from 1946 to 2008, he has amassed an extraordinary list of accomplishments. His family was one of the first to establish a scholarship endowment at the university.
