Abstract
Dynamic capabilities (DC’s), (the ability of firms to build, integrate and reconfigure its internal and external resources), is one of the most important competencies firms should possess to have a strong competitive edge in the rapidly changing business environment. The focus of this research is the tangible resources of organizations, and how the Geographical Information System (GIS) is a perfect tool to align and realign these resources to detect and capture the available business opportunities needed to generate sustained returns on invested capitals. This research paper studies the impact of data integration using GIS to improve DC’s of Egyptian telecommunications organizations. The results suggest that GIS technology contributes greatly in realizing and increasing the firm's ability to integrate, build, and reconfigure internal and external resources. The visualization of a huge amount of dissimilar data enables the decision maker to easily find the gap between infrastructure distribution and population distribution. GIS visualization maps the changes of the population’s characteristics thus sensing business opportunities. In addition, GIS plays another role in seizing business opportunities by improving the quality of decisions taken concerning Geo-Marketing campaigns, selecting new outlet locations, and changing the density of infrastructure. Moreover, transformation of tangible resources is much easier using GIS to redistribute, reconfigure, replace the infrastructure, and other firm’s assets.
