Abstract

The article focuses on culture shock, which is a well-studied process of psychological and practical adaptation by the sojourner in an alien culture. It highlights the association of cross-cultural travel narratives, "Typee," by Herman Melville and Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca's "La Relacion" that resonated their good and bad experiences. It also outlines the four stages to be considered with culture shock including the honeymoon or tourist phase, the crises or cultural shock phase and the adjustment and the acculturation phase. It further emphasizes that the experience of traveling, culture shock and the real experience of another place and people will forever changes the totality of the person.
