La Lomita (Robstown, Tex.)
The La LomitaNewsletter Collection, archived at UTRGV Special Collections & Archives, serves as a vital primary source documenting the Chicano Movement (El Movimiento) in South Texas during the mid-1970s. Published in Robstown, Texas (referred to in the masthead as Robstown, Tejas-Aztlán), these newsletters provide a grassroots perspective on the social, political, and cultural struggles of the Mexican-American community.
This bilingual publication features local news and politics, human interest stories, photographs and political cartoons, product boycotts, business advertisements, and more. The publication is closely associated with a period of radicalization in South Texas following the landmark 1969 MAYO (Mexican American Youth Organization) conference held at the La Lomita Mission site, which spurred the creation of La Raza Unida Party.
