Abstract
In this chapter, I discuss how I invested ten years using critical reflection in the form of autoethnography as a method for my personal and professional development. As a Mexican American man in academia, I am compelled to advocate for a room of my own at my current institution, which is an Emerging Research, Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). The room that I worked to build over the last ten years is finally framed, and I continue to build it to shelter the knowledge I create, the teaching I practice, and the mentoring I provide. This chapter serves as a space to ask questions I still have while I continue to make an impact on my community and in education through leadership in research, teaching, and service.
