Abstract
Ovarian cancer (OC) remains a leading cause of gynecological cancer mortality due to its late-stage diagnosis and non-specific symptoms. Early detection is critical for improving survival rates for patients. This literature review explores the potential of utilizing pap smears and the collection of cervicovaginal samples as a diagnostic and screening tool for early detection of ovarian cancer. The review is structured into categories including DNA methylation, DNA mutations, proteomics via mass spectrometry, and a case study review highlighting the use of pap smear in OC detection. The findings underscore the promise of these methods and highlights the need for further research in order to integrate them into routine screening practices.
