Abstract
This paper focuses on how the COVID-19 pandemic influenced mammogram obtainment patterns in Texas with the analysis of socioeconomic factors and population density. The results can strengthen the current understanding of how pandemics affect healthcare services. Data was obtained from the Texas Department of Health and Human Services through an open records request. The mammogram data was specifically retrieved from the Breast and Cervical Cancer Services. Mammograms were categorized by federal poverty level (FPL), age, and county for 2018-2021. Post-pandemic patterns were of interest and data was organized by five levels of population density and seven geographical regions. Analysis yielded overarching patterns between population density throughout the seven geographical regions. As more data from after the COVID-19 pandemic is published, further analysis should be completed to form a greater understanding that can guide healthcare organizations on managing mammogram services for the next large-scale health event.
