Abstract
Winds & Waves: A Collection of Short Stories & Poems, presents works of fiction telling a cohesive story with themes of survival, joy in simplicity, and resilience. My work will show the gradual exposing of moods as well as experimentation with writing techniques in several genres. My writing has developed to include a voice of introspection.
My thesis title includes winds and waves to signify change and transformation. They also refer to the movement in nature. Nature is included in a lot of my pieces. Water is an important symbolic component in several of the pieces as well.
Being born and raised in the lower RGV, our language is a quirky blending of Mexican Spanish slang and South Texas English, Tex-Mex. I draw from personal experiences so since I’ve grown up with this language some of the dialogue in my stories and phrases in my poetry will have Tex-Mex sprinkled throughout. Tex-Mex reminds me of family, that’s how we talk.

Winds & Waves: A Collection of Short Stories & Poems, presenta obras de ficción que cuentan una historia cohesiva con temas de supervivencia, alegría en la simplicidad y resiliencia.
Mi trabajo mostrará la exposición gradual de estados de ánimo, así como la experimentación con técnicas de escritura en varios géneros. Mi escritura se ha desarrollado para incluir una voz de introspección. El título de mi tesis incluye vientos y olas para significar cambio y transformación. También se refieren al movimiento en la naturaleza. La naturaleza está incluida en muchas de mis piezas. El agua también es un componente simbólico importante en varias de las piezas.
Habiendo nacido y crecido en el bajo RGV, nuestro idioma es una combinación peculiar de la jerga del español mexicano y el inglés del sur de Texas, Tex-Mex. Me baso en experiencias personales, así que, dado que crecí con este idioma, algunos de los diálogos en mis historias y frases en mi poesía tendrán Tex-Mex por todas partes. Tex-Mex me recuerda a la familia, así es como hablamos.
