Abstract
Courage is a young adult novel that tells the story of Iván and Noah, two Mexican American, 18-year-old boys, who are originally from the Rio Grande Valley and meet when they are paired up as roommates while attending university in Austin. Hesitant to trust anyone after being bullied during his time in high school, Iván finds himself growing close to Noah despite the walls he has built around himself. And Noah, feeling like he has no one to turn to after realizing he may be queer, confides in Iván. Together, both boys must realize that they too are worthy of the love they give to others, even when the world around them may make them feel like they’re not deserving of it.
