Abstract
In Aside from the Want, the author examines their life and the broader lives of others through the art of poetry—specifically through the themes of life transitions and moving on in life. The author views those themes of life transitions through four specific sections: the military, drug abuse, relationships, and the final transition of death. Through the eyes of the author themselves, or through the various personas found in their writing, Aside from the Want explores the complicated expressions and pivotal moments humankind finds themselves in. Throughout, the author attempts to reevaluate their past experiences and decisions in order to make sense of the future and the next life transitions to come.
