Abstract
Xavier Garza’s four-book series Max’s Lucha Libre Adventures, published from 2011 to 2020, both reinforces and questions the dichotomy of good and evil. The doppelganger figure of the Fallen Angel functions as a final opponent for the Guardian Angel, the uncle of adolescent protagonist Maximilian. Garza dramatizes the performative nature of virtue and villainy through rivalries and wrestling scenarios in which técnicos battle rudos. This bilingually published series written for intermediate readers holds literary significance and contributes to the popular global phenomenon of lucha libre.
