Abstract
Research documents disparities in health and education faced by blind and low vision people. In this case study, we discuss the SWEETHEART project (Studying Wellness Experiences and Expectations to Health Educate, Alleviate, and be a Resource for Treatment of Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease) and focus on lessons learned in recruiting and conducting survey research with blind and low vision people who have diabetes or cardiovascular disease. We discuss challenges with reaching recruitment goals and data completeness, and offer recommendations to help others avoid these pitfalls. Additionally, readers will learn practices they can use in their own work to make recruitment efforts more inclusive of blind and low vision participants.
