Her father was born and raised in Mississippi then moved to Nixon, Texas. Gertrude mentions her grandparents. Interviewer and Gertrude discuss people they know that have passed away. They discuss pictures they’re sharing. Gertrude talks about her father helping build depots in McAllen and the horses he rode; he would also find men who slept in the sheds and would send them back north on freight trains. They discuss Noe who shot a man. Gertrude also discusses a man who rode a bull from Brownsville to New York. The interviewer and Gertrude go through more pictures and talk about each one. They mention how the last name Cannon is common in other parts of the US compared to where they are in the Valley. Gertrude discusses a church photo including a Brother Bill. Gertrude discusses mementos of her father that were lost, and identifies several figures in other family photos. Gertrude recalls an early story related to her by Mr. Pullin [sp?] of a horse thief who was brought into town and hanged, as well as another story about a man discovered dead from knife wounds and buried before a coffin could be made. Gertrude describes photos of soldiers from New York coming to McAllen in 1916 to defend the city from bandits, and photos of the early McAllen police force and mayor, including the design of their uniforms by Noah Cannon. Gertrude’s father was married in Choate, many of her extended family are buried in the cemetery there. Gertrude recalls how her father came down to the area working on the railroad, and her mother was living in Beeville.

Quinta Mazatlan Historical Marker, home of Jason Matthews then later Frank S. The ceremony starts with a funny story, then a prayer dedicated to the history of their city McAllen. Dr. Norton goes on to talk about Jason Matthews, who then calls Judge Thomas to speak about Jason Matthews. He discusses the creation of the Juarez Club and the creation of Miller airport, and finishes his speech by remembering the great times he and Jason had together. Fran Isabelle introduces the Hidalgo County Historical Commission Members. Dr. Norton then continues with the research of Quinta Mazatlan by Anne McGee, and how they had to speak with many to be able to have enough information for the land marker. Lucille recalls her memories with Jason Mathews and his home, also mentioning his wife.
